“Beauty awakens the soul to act.”
Dante Alighieri
I cannot overstate the benefits that I believe that music education provides. Playing music is one of the most extraordinary manifestations of intellectual, artistic, and emotional human expression. The skills one learns and develops to practice and perform alone and with others at high standards has wide ranging application throughout life, for those who decide to pursue other fields as well. Not only is music education important in developing future generations of musicians, but also future music lovers, audiences, and supporters, fostering healthy communities. It also is incredibly fun and gratifying. It’s certainly a great deal of work, but the rewards are well worth it.
My own experiences of learning the cello have been the most formative of my life. I started the cello at 13, studying with Seattle Symphony Principal Cellist, Raymond Davis, himself a student of the great Leonard Rose. I attended summer festivals at Marrowstone, Tanglewood, Bowdoin, Texas, and in Europe. I attended the Manhattan School of Music, where my teacher was former New York Philharmonic Associate Principal Cellist Alan Stepansky. I continued my studies in Florence, Italy with renowned pedagogue Marianne Chen, rooted in the schools of Channing Robbins and Antonio Janigro.
I strive for all my students to have a positive, rewarding, and fulfilling experience as we work on achieving your musical goals. If you or your child is a beginner, we will focus on building a solid foundation of technique and facility with the cello, and forming good practice habits. For more advanced students, we’ll work out something specific to your level and needs together. Ongoing technical study, more efficient practice, audition preparation, orchestral parts and excerpts, chamber music, solo repertoire, solving technical conundrums, body awareness and injury prevention, and continued work on developing musicality can all be areas of focus.
I’ve recently relocated to Los Angeles from New York, and am based in Echo Park.

I believe that as much as possible, playing music should not be something exclusive. Everyone who wants to learn should be able to, regardless of the resources available to them. To that end, I will work with a limited number of students on a sliding scale. Please inquire.
